Manet was another French painter, and he has worked with realism as well as impressionism. The amount of subtle detail in his work and the way he handles his brushmarks demonstrate a great deal of planning and patience, especially when he composes rich backgrounds. I love the way he paints the figures, as they seem to have a great deal of sentimental detail combined with a capturing impressionistic essence.
