Alberto Breccia - Cauchemars

Alberto Breccia's Cauchemars is the work that has influenced me more than anything for this project. When i first came accross him I sat for hours trying to understand his approach but not mimic it. He has made a series of comic strips but this one is by far my favourite as it is all hand painted and carries a very heavy load of emotion. His range of pallete is immense and the way he paints his figures is certainly something i look up to and plan to study further in the future.

Renovation - Unit X Blog

Welcome to my Unit X blog, Ren-ovation. Here you will find things that influenced my artwork output over the past few months, ideas I was working with during the unit, and examples of my work during it’s process, and some finished artwork as well. For Unit X I chose to be part of the Book Group, and selected to illustrate Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s short story “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings”. I found this project to be particularly challenging and very enjoyable, as I went through the process of reinventing the way I think about when producing illustrations. I felt that since the story is very open to interpretation, I should concentrate on the emotions and thoughts that the story illuminates on me rather than trying to depict it as a “conventional” narrative.
